Gibson Home Services–Committed to Quality

The term “quality service” is often overused in the home contracting business. After working for various home improvement companies and becoming dissatisfied with low standards and poor quality, Josh Gibson and his wife, Valerie, started Gibson Home Services in January of 2005. Located in Markham, this family-owned business provides the Piedmont area with a wide variety of home improvements and repairs, as well as estate maintenance and handyman services. Relying on Valerie’s business sense in marketing and bookkeeping and Josh’s 11 years of experience in framing and home improvement, the two created a business that is booming. Their promise to treat every home as their own has resonated with local homeowners, and word has spread quickly that Gibson Home Services can be trusted for exceptional quality and service.

Growing up in Front Royal, Josh knew he had a knack for building and repairing. One year after he and Valerie decided to open the business, Josh’s best friend from middle school, Matt Houck, was asked to join the team. Josh and Matt lead two crews of workers; this allows them to collaborate on larger projects. “As a project supervisor with over 10 years of experience in the business, Matt does a great job for us,” says Josh, adding that the crews can do everything from finishing basements and remodeling kitchens and baths, to minor excavation and decking. With over 65 percent of their customers coming from referrals, Valerie and Josh are committed to the life-long relationships they build with customers—they always go the extra mile. One time they went quite a few extra miles for a client—all the way to Mississippi to prepare a house for move-in! “We worked for two weeks straight—painting, putting down shoe molding, and changing light fixtures,” recalls Valerie, adding that the clients were extremely pleased with their dedication to the job.

When potential clients make initial contact with Gibson Home Services, Valerie sets up an appointment for a free estimate. After specifics of the project are discussed, an estimate is provided, along with a detailed explanation of the proposed project. Once a client accepts the estimate, the job can usually start within weeks—depending on the project’s size and scope, as well as the weather (if outdoor work is involved). Josh and Matt keep in close contact with clients regarding the job’s progress, taking great pleasure at the sight of a happy customer. “We want to offer 100 percent satisfaction,” says Josh, adding that if they cannot do a specific project, they will refer the customer to other local businesses through their Customer Resource Network.

Local realtors depend on Gibson Home Services to prepare homes that are up for sale and/or contact Josh to complete work after a home inspection has been performed. Homeowners can also call Josh and Valerie with a “laundry list,” knowing that Gibson Home Services can help prioritize and complete the list efficiently. “As a family-owned business, we take pride in each aspect of the job,” notes Valerie, adding, “If it isn’t good enough for our home, it isn’t good enough for yours!”

Gibson Home Services is a member of the Fauquier County Chamber of Commerce and is accredited by the Better Business Bureau. Josh and Valerie live in Markham, and when they are not working, they like to spend time at the beach and visit with family and friends.
